Goalden Girls Podcast Episode #76 -10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Set Goals

Sometimes at the end of the year, it isn’t all champagne, sparklers and celebrations.

It can and I say this from experience instead, feel like it’s all unfinished tasks, never-ending to-do lists, and goals and progress that seems STUCK.

You may feel deflated, discouraged, and overwhelmed with your goals and progress so far. Or maybe lack thereof.

Maybe you look back at the last year in a haze like what ACTUALLY happened?! (or is that – just me?!

Or perhaps the year just FLEW by and you’re left a little stunned feeling happy, busy and not grounded or fully rooted in the experience.

There are a few reasons this happens:

  • We don’t give ourselves credit for how far we’ve come

  • We don’t take time to pause and reflect and celebrate.

  • We overestimate what we can do in a year, underestimate the power of 5 or 10 years

  • Sometimes we’re actually under-living our lives BECAUSE we recycle our to-do list + goals. We put them on autopilot without being intentional about what’s working, what isn’t and what we truly want.

  • We don’t adapt or frankly even realize when that’s changed. And then we wonder why we’re unfulfilled, unhappy, and feel like we’re going through the motions of life. It’s because we are if we aren’t intentional about waking up.

That’s why I’m SUCH a fan and advocate of reflection. And the end of the year is the PERFECT Time to do this.

Not only is there such a natural transition - a closing of one chapter, and the excitement of the blank pages in the chapters ahead

And for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the weather is frightful and allows us that space to be cozy , to get comfortable, to journal and reflect.

And to those of you in the southern hemisphere , you get to do this on a beach, so you actually do win at life for that :)

So that begs the question, how do you reflect on the year? What questions do you ask and answers?  How do you take the lessons?  How do you do this effectively and efficiently?

Drumroll please – I introduce to you, Your Year In Review!!!

This is my signature process for doing your own, personal annual review and get you ready to plan for the next year.

To go along with this episode, there’s a free playbook you can grab at lisamichaud.com/yearinreview — go ahead and grab that. You can follow along.

And if you want to take this one level deeper:

  • Maybe you’ve never done something like this before and you’re really cravign going deep

  • Or maybe you’re pretty good at reflecting and journaling so you want the extra guidance so that you can take this to the next level…

I invite you to invest in the YOUR Year In Review Masterclass.

It’s a 4-part, self-study course designed to take you through the three steps here:  1) Close the Chapter,  2) Reflect and Celebrate and 3) Review your Decade.

You’ll find videos to guide you, and individual Playbooks - a template - for all this  at www.lisamichaud.com/youryearinreview.  All the links are in the shownotes, and I encourage you to hit pause –  and go check those out right now.

Now, I hope you do grab the Playbook at the VERY least because listening to this without taking the time to reflect for yourself just isn’ going to get you results…. And I would love if you invest in the Masterclass…

But either way I know this:

We’re always learning and growing especially from the challenges, disappointments and “failures” – this is an opportunity to take the lesson - and fully embrace it <3

By taking the time to complete your Year in Review now – before you set goals for this year

You will benefit.

You will:

  • Learn how to complete your annual personal review and get the most out of it.

  • Solidify lessons learned from the last year: extracting the gold from the crap, you could say so that you can integrate the lessons into your life, and make the crap ALMOST worth it ;)

  • Gain perspective on how far you’ve come

  • Feel motivated and excited again

  • Get closure on this past year, and feel FRESH to kick off a new year with aligned and intentional goals (and action!).

Don’t just listen to this one: grab a pen and paper – your Year in Review Playbook, and enjoy this process.
